Siena Golf Club & The Arroyo Golf Club

A Pair of Las Vegas Aces

By Brian Weis

Las Vegas is called Sin City because if you do not bring your clubs the Golf Gods would be offended. For some Las Vegas is a gamblers paradise, for others it is the perfect golf destination. Siena Golf Club and its sister course Arroyo Golf Club are two properties you must include on your next Las Vegas golf trip. Although they are not attached to a glitzy casino, both courses sit conveniently 10 miles away from the Las Vegas strip, so you still know you're in Vegas, just without all the distractions.

Siena Golf Club is a Schmidt-Curly design that features gentle rolling rye grass fairways and undulating bent grass greens. The course winds thru the desert offering spectacular views of the Spring Mountains, Red Rock Canyon and the Las Vegas strip. Whether you are a weekend warrior or a touring pro you will be challenged by the par 72 championship course that offers five sets of tee boxes ranging from 6816 to 4941 yards. Siena is a balanced mixed of dogleg and straight away holes. Off the tees, golfers will be faced with deep fairway white sand bunkers although on most holes the landing areas are generous. Most greens are elevated surrounded by strategic bunkers. To play well you will need to gamble at times and make some shots to avoid the 97 fairway and greenside bunkers.

Troy Anderson, the Director of Sales and Marketing for both venues, shares that number 8 is his favorite hole. "The 8th is a long and intimidating par-5 that doglegs right to the green. A well struck drive may not be enough to cut the corner, but the challenge is always there," said Anderson. "The approach is into an elevated green guarded heavily by bunkers on the front and left sides. This hole plays tough the whole way through."

After your round The Siena Bistro awaits you. The Italian-themed restaurant and bar features a private patio with fireplace and a casual patio that provides beautiful panoramic views of the golf course, Lake Siena and the Las Vegas Strip. The 13,000 square foot clubhouse is complete with a full proshop and a 150 person banquet facility.

The Arroyo Golf Club, an Arnold Palmer Signature course, is located at the posh Red Rock Country Club. The links style layout features Bermuda grass fairways and bent grass greens. Palmer built a plush masterpiece that weaves along the Spring Mountain and Red Rock Canyon range. From the back tees the course measures 6,883 yards and offers 4 additional tee boxes to challenge golfers of all abilities. The course is open to public play and is located in the Master Planned Community of Summerlin in Las Vegas.

The finishing hole embodies the country club experience at Arroyo. "Number 18 is one of the most beautiful holes on the golf course," states Anderson. "It ties in everything that Arroyo is on one hole."

So what exactly makes it so distinctive? First off, while standing on the 18th tee you have an amazing view of the Red Rock Canyon. The 401 yard par-4 is picturesque with a pond to the right that's accented with a beachside bunker. A tee shot hit to the center of the fairway avoids the hazards but brings more deep greenside bunkers into play on your approach. Carding a par is a feat and would be the perfect way to end your round at one of "The King's" signature courses.

Arroyo Golf Club has a dedicated clubhouse for the daily fee golfer with a full-service golf shop, men's and women's locker rooms as well as a bar and grill. Dining on the large expansive patio provides excellent views of the Red Rock Canyon and the city below.

If you are looking for a high end golf experience at mid range prices you found your Las Vegas golf destination with these courses. High end amenities like GPS carts, a country club feel and beautiful scenery makes you feel like a high roller in Vegas. The two courses guarantee you can get the best pricing when booking your tee times and vacation on their website. The websites are now featuring fall golf specials like two day golf packages.
